Millennium scholar recognized

Vermilion, Alta. (Nov. 20, 2007) — Brandon, Man., resident Darcy Geseron has joined an elite group of scholars from across Canada who are 2007 Millennium Excellence Award Laureates.
Geseron, a second-year Appraisal and Assessment student in the college’s school of business, received a $4,000 award that recognizes and fosters academic excellence, creative leadership, active citizenship and interest in innovation. At Lakeland, Geseron also demonstrates athletic talent and ability as a member of the college’s men’s volleyball team.

Glenn Charlesworth, Lakeland’s president and chief executive officer, presented a certificate of excellence to Geseron on behalf of the Canadian Millennium Scholarship Foundation.

“We’re very proud of this accomplishment as well as the others Darcy has made while at Lakeland College,” says Charlesworth. “We have no doubt that Darcy will continue to have amazing results in the workforce.”

Geseron, aged 20, also had praise for his program and experience at Lakeland College. “The dedication of Lakeland’s faculty and staff makes for an enjoyable college experience. The friendly atmosphere along with hands-on experience will serve me well as I prepare for my career,” says Geseron.

Gereson is the only recipient of the Millennium Excellence Award at Lakeland College for 2007. The Canadian Millennium Scholarship Foundation was created by the federal government in 1998 and has distributed more than $1.5 billion to Canadian students since its inception. The Millennium Excellence Award program recognizes students midway through their post-secondary studies.
