Lakeland College Energy CentreOperations and Power Engineering for the Oilfield

The Lloydminster region's affiliation with heavy oil makes energy and petroleum education programs a natural fit at Lakeland College. Our Energy Centre facility ensures Lakeland College is a leading provider of education and training for the sector.

For many years, we've offered the unique heavy oil operations technician program that combined heavy oil operations with power engineering. While this provided the skills and training to run and variety of heavy oil installations, the power engineering element also provided a number of other career opportunities wherever a steam power plant is used. This includes other industries, hospitals and other major facilities.

Lakeland students inside the Energy Centre lecture theatreIn 2012 a two-year diploma program was introduced. Heavy Oil Power Engineering (HOPE), further skills in both heavy oil and power engineering areas. As with the HOOT program, there will be a steam practicum and students will be prepared to challenge another level of power engineering, 3rd class, by the time they finish their course.

Lakeland also offers power engineering training online and during evenings, as well as a variety of other petroleum related programs including driver training and gas process operator. See trades & technology continuing education for a complete list of courses.
