Paramedic – Online/Camrose

Expanding Life Saving Skills

Get the skills you need for a challenging career that is rewarding for you, and often life saving for others.

Paramedics are vital members of the health care team with the expertise to provide advanced pre-hospital emergency care. You must complete the first 2 levels of care--EMR and EMT--in order to train as a paramedic. Both emergency medical responder and emergency medical technician programs are available through Lakeland College.

This program offers learning flexibility by combining online learning with face-to-face instruction plus ambulance and hospital practicums.

You will:
  • Prepare for ambulance and hospital practicums in a 24-hour course.
  • Accumulate a minimum of 400 hours of ambulance experience plus at least 40 calls on an acute care ambulance during your first year.
  • Develop esprit de corps! Your program starts with a three-day outdoor adventure with classmates.
  • Spend at least 40 days in class in Camrose learning specific technical skills and participating in class events. It’s an opportunity to meet classmates who you can turn to for assistance and support throughout the program.
  • Advance your skills in pre-hospital care including a number of different medical emergencies.
  • Build technical skills in everything from cricothyroid to suturing and radial artery puncture to intubation.
  • Qualify to write the Alberta College of Paramedics exam.
  • Be required to attend 12 on-site days in your first year of studies, in addition to all Technical Weeks, certification courses and exam days.
