Early Learning & Child Care Diploma – Vermilion Campus

Broaden your career options by taking a second year of early learning and child care courses and earn a diploma.

While you are still prepared to be an excellent front-line worker, you can also move into management and leadership roles.

You'll build on and expand the knowledge and skills from your first year of study by practicing:
  • activity planning
  • snack and meal planning
  • positive play strategies
  • positive behavior management
  • age appropriate curriculum development
You'll get that practice by doing your course work--curriculum planning, play and emergent curriculum--with the children at Lakeland's on-site daycare.

That practice will also be part of your 2nd year practicums--fall and spring play programs for community children (Note: In Spring 2012 you'll have the opportunity to do your practicum in the Dominican Republic). You'll decorate and set the layout for the program activity rooms. You'll interact with parents and other staff. Plan with the scope of the licensing requirements. You'll both operate and evaluate the programs at the end of each 5-week program. And most important you'll be working with children, from infants to age 5.

Successfully completing the diploma program qualifies you for Level 3 of the Day Care Staff Qualifications from Alberta or ECE level III from Saskatchewan Community Resources and Employment’s Child Care Branch.

This program is available online at Credenda Virtual School at www.credenda.net/college/programs/elcc_diploma.htm
