Steamfitter/Pipefitter - Overview
You will lay out, assemble, fabricate, maintain and repair piping systems. Those systems might carry water, steam, chemicals or fuel used in heating, cooling, lubricating and other processes.
You may also remove and replace worn components, do general maintenance work and work on plant shut-downs.
Training includes a variety of skills such as reading a blue print and welding. You’ll building knowledge such as understanding industrial refrigeration and piping systems.
Your apprenticeship is 3 years. You have an 8-week technical training period and a minimum of 1,500 hours of on-the-job training per year.
This is a physically demanding job that often requires climbing. It may be indoors or outdoors.
