If You Choose Medicine
An MD starts with your first university courses. You must complete at least 2 pre-professional years of study in a science program before going into medical school. At Lakeland College you may take 1 year (30 credits) or consider a biological sciences block transfer if you wish to spend a second year at our Lloydminster campus.
If you choose the U of A route, you are encouraged to complete a BSc before applying to medical school, however you may apply after 2 or 3 years in a degree program. You must also complete a Medical Admission Test (MCAT). For details visit www.aamc.org/students/mcat.
The long road to an MD also includes 4 years of medical study and minimum of 2 years internship before you can be licensed to practice medicine in Alberta.
