Guide to College Life

Being There

That’s every parent’s job: be there for your kids. And the job doesn’t end when they head off to college. You still need to be there, but in new ways.

Use this section to find out how you can support your Lakeland student --- and how Lakeland can help you do it.
Applying
Our admissions section (all the menus are on the left) gives step-by-step instructions on how to apply to attend Lakeland College. Here's a quick guide to those steps.

If you or your student needs more information before applying to Lakeland College:

1. Talk to an enrolment specialist.
2. Plan a campus visit.
3. Find out about financial aid.
4. Estimate your costs via our Fee Calculator.
5. Learn about living on campus.
6. Attend an information session.

If you’re ready to apply to Lakeland College, follow these steps:

1. Review the requirements for admission.
2. Talk to an enrolment specialist.
3. Follow the application steps.
From application to acceptance--they need to send their marks
We'll let you know that the application has been received. This is very important: if marks are sent with the application, your student could receive their conditional or full acceptance within a week. This doesn't apply to programs that require a personal interview or other extra admission requirements.

Without a transcript or a list of courses with marks from their school, the application process is stalled. To help your student and us, encourage them to get their marks in to the admissions office.

After applying, your student will be receiving a variety of communication from Lakeland College. We don't want to overwhelm you, so you'll get it all in stages. So watch for additional information about applying for residence, entrance scholarships and other information about Lakeland College.
FYI: Acceptance to registration
Registration is the next biggest day in your student's life, if you don't count moving into residence or their own place. Registration and orientation information will be available starting in June on our microsite www.lakelandcollege.ca/fyi. For your information will list registration times, residence information and list orientation events.

Academic Life
The Rules and Regulations

Students have both rights and responsibilities while at college. Their academic life is governed by a comprehensive set of academic regulations set by the Academic Council. Rules and regulations for such things as the grading system, appeals, probation, and deadlines for course selection change can be found in the Academic Calendar.

Students are also provided with program handbooks and course outlines that describe program goals and course evaluation procedures. It is the students’ responsibility to ensure their course selections meet graduation requirements and that the information on their transcripts accurately reflects their achievements at Lakeland College. You want to be able to understand things your student talks about--or even if they don't, some things you might like to know can be found in the Lakeland College Student Policies and Procedures handbook.
