There’s a natural “safety dividend” in a community as intimate as Lakeland College. There are no strangers here: Students, faculty and staff all know each other, and everyone looks out for everyone else.

That doesn't mean we take safety for granted. Campus security is part of our Lakeland family. For more information on campus security see the drop down below.

Security is also about information. Lakeland College collects and manages information according to the provincial Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) legislation. This means we collect your information for our own purposes and don't share it with anyone else. It also means that you student has to grant you the right to access things such as marks. Security Services
Both campuses are patrolled around the clock Through safe walk programs, security officers will escort students to and from class and work Residence buildings are locked and require keys to access. Individual bedrooms also have door locks. Renovated dorm buildings on the Vermilion campus have moved to swipe cards. There are check points at recreational facilities Security officers do regular campus patrols Security officers are available by phone at all times. There are after-hour emergency numbers. FOIP--permission to receive information
The provincial (Alberta) Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) has been in force at Lakeland College since September 1, 1999. What this generally means is that student information is protected and will only be disclosed as authorized by the act. The general policy is in the academic calendar. The other things that FOIP means, is that our staff can by law only release marks to the student. It also means by law that a student’s medical information and residence room number also can’t be released to anyone but the student. We have had situations where a parent has come to surprise their student and we were unable to provide them with a room number. So, before you visit, make sure that you have the right room number. You can be given access to information if your student agrees. Your student can also request that their personal information not be disclosed in certain circumstances. Students must fill out and return the FOIP form in order to disclose any personal information.
