Boundless Fun playground project in the home stretch

Through the generous donations received by private, corporate and local government donor more than half of the fund raising is in place for an inclusive playground on Lakeland College's Lloydminster campus.

The Boundless Fun Playground, set for completion in fall 2012, is the final component of a licensed on-campus daycare that officially opened in fall 2011.

"The focus of this community project is to provide an inclusive and boundless playground for children, with and without disabilities, enabling them to play together in an accessible and nurturing environment," says Brunetta Mariana, grants and foundation manager at Lakeland. "When children grow up playing and learning together, they develop a lifelong respect for and appreciation of individuals of all abilities."

"Our students tend to be older," says Mariana, "Over 70% of our 1,300 students on the Lloyd campus are over the age of 20. Throughout the year Lakeland College’s Lloydminster campus accommodates approximately 40 student families with 60 to 80 children ranging from infants to age 16. It also means we strive to provide other family services such as day care and recreational facilities either on campus or within walking distance."

Among the project's partners is the City of Lloydminster. The city has agreed to combine their barrier free playground with the college's. The joint effort means a fun, safe and barrier free place for all community children to play adjacent to Bud Miller Park.

Fund raising efforts continue for this new playground area specifically designed for physically challenged children and children ages 12 months to 12 years. Individuals, organizations and companies interested in contributing to the project, should call Lakeland College's advancement department at 780 871 5732.
