Welcome to Lakeland Applied Research
Research is not a new venture for Lakeland College.
In fact, we exist because of applied research. A demonstration farm was created near Vermilion in 1911- to showcase the advantages of mixed farming. The venture was such a success that it evolved into the Vermilion School of Agriculture. A century later, we still serve as a test site for emerging industries and technologies and have branched out into many other programming areas of excellence. Today, we do applied research in agriculture, energy and entrepreneurship, sustainable environments and buildings, and fire and emergency medicine. Working with students, industry, regional associates, and funding partners, we will continue to develop, test, and showcase new technologies and products that have the potential to transform the future.
