Quick Facts

Welcome to Lakeland College Athletics

When Lakeland College was born as Vermilion School of Agriculture back in 1913, students built themselves a hockey rink and played. While hockey is now played in the club setting, Rustler athletics has grown to include basketball, curling, rodeo, rowing and volleyball.

In 2010 we’ll be adding cross country and soccer to our list of Rustler sports.

Three of the sports are--and the two new ones will be--part of the highly competitive Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC). Rustlers field men's and women's basketball, and volleyball as well as men's, women's and mixed curling ACAC teams.

Rodeo competitors line up against teams from the Canadian Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (CIRA) that include member colleges and universities mostly in Alberta.

Rowing, as unlikely as it might seem in the middle of the Prairies, thrives at Lakeland where the Rustlers are the only college team that competes with western Canadian university crews.
