Lakeland proved to be the best choice for Horpestad as she transitioned from high school to post-secondary studies. “The intimate classroom setting was really great because I got to know a lot of my professors who were outgoing and easy to talk to,” shared Horpestad. “Lakeland made the transition easy and enjoyable, all of which ultimately assisted me as I completed my education.”
After completing her bachelor of commerce degree – majoring in accounting – at MacEwan University, the Class of 2017 graduate says she loves what she’s doing now - working as a junior accounting technician at Leckie and Associates in Lloydminster, Alta.
At Leckie and Associates Horpestad performs a number of tasks including the preparation of different types of engagements, corporate tax returns, payroll, and bookkeeping. The list keeps growing as she gains more experience. 2018 will mark her first tax season, and Horpestad says she’s excited to experience all it includes.
Horpestad shares Leckie and Associates provides a strong learning environment, which helps her apply the concepts taught during her post-secondary school to real-world situations. On the job training also provides the practical experience required to help obtain her chartered professional accountant status.
She is on track to achieve this designation, and will write her final exam in 2019.
