Tips for first time renters

Students and other first-time renters should do their homework before signing a lease
Students looking for a place to call home while they attend post-secondary programs should do a little homework before making a final decision.

Entering into a rental agreement is a big commitment whether the rented space is a traditional self-contained suite or a spare bedroom in a landlord’s home. Signing a rental agreement before exchanging keys and rent cheques can avoid any misunderstandings.

Service Alberta has prepared A Checklist for Renters and Landlords - a helpful tool for anyone looking to rent space as either a landlord or a tenant, especially those who will be sharing rental space.
