Most of our Lakeland College certificate and diploma programs are open to international students. However, there are exceptions and they are noted.

Check the drop downs for more details, including the names of the available programs and a link to each program.

Your application must be submitted before July 15 for the September intake. However, we advise you to apply well before that date as the visa process can take several weeks.

One of Lakeland's major advantages is the college farm where students have the opportunity to use their skills whether they are working in the small animal clinic, showing purebred cattle or making decisions about crops.

Some of our students do a double major by spending one more year here. This is also a 2+2 program. This means you spend 2 years at Lakeland and get a diploma, then 2 years at university for a degree. Lakeland has transfer agreements with several universities.

Neither the applied degree nor on-line renewable energy program are available to international students at this time.

Both these courses require industry practicums.

University Transfer arrow View

We offer university level courses allowing you to transfer after one or two years of courses at our Lloydminster campus.

We have transfer agreements with universities across Western Canada. This allows you to transfer 30 to 60 credits (1 to 2 years) towards your degree. We do not guarantee the transfer as each university makes it own admission decisions, and will evaluate not only your completed Lakeland course work but may also go back through your earlier education records.

Lakeland advantages:
  • Your instructors will know you by name and not as a number
  • After you're accepted, our academic advisor will help you choose your courses
  • It's a great transition to university so you can get more comfortable with being in Canada and post-secondary education.

The Process

As an international student interested in university transfer, you will need to take the most steps and undergo the most complete and demanding assessment of your English language skills and your previous academic credentials. This includes:
  1. You must write Lakeland's English entrance test. There is no cost to write this exam.
  2. If English isn't your first language, you must show that you are able to understand, read, write and speak English. Please check our English language requirements page for details.
  3. If your scores on our entrance test and language proficiency are satisfactory, then your education needs to be evaluated to see if you have the appropriate academic requirements in other subjects. Your education documents have to be sent to the International Qualifications Assessment Service. This evaluation has a cost and can take 12 to 16 weeks or longer.

Usually Lakeland will provide you with an acceptance letter after your complete your English proficiency testing. Your final acceptance will depend on the evaluation of your academic records.
