Class of 1941 alumnus donates $82,000 to Centennial Campaign
Arthur (Bud) McGinnis '41 is opening the door for Lakeland graduates to go on to university with the creation of Future of Agriculture Award that he and his wife Gladys established with a $82,000 donation to the Lakeland College Centennial Campaign. The funds will ensure that other college students have the same opportunity as he did to earn a degree with the creation of an endowment fund. The endowment will fund a $2,000 annual scholarship for a second-year Lakeland agricultural sciences student who intends to earn a bachelor of science in agriculture. The first Dr. Arthur and Gladys McGinnis Future of Agriculture Award recipient will be selected in 2013.
The Great Toboggan Caper returns
The next centennial event is taking a downward slide that just may land Lakeland College another Guinness World Record. The Great Toboggan Ride will be held Thursday, Jan. 31 on college land 3 km south of Vermilion. The event is a throwback to a 1987 student event when 132 students climbed on a 102’ 7 3/8” toboggan at the Vermilion Provincial Park and slid into the record books for the most people on a toboggan. Grab your mitts and join the fun.
