Lakeland leads new agricultural training project in Belize
Chilly temperatures didn't deter the warm collegial spirit between Lakeland College officials and guests from Belize at the Vermilion campus from Jan. 7 to 11.
Dr. Gordon Holder of the University of Belize and Yvonne Palma from the Belize Ministry of Education, Youth and Culture were at Lakeland to begin putting together a framework for a new three-year $440,000 project that will enable Caribbean countries to develop training programs that align with the needs and demands of its agriculture industry.

Centennial events take a downhill turn with The Great Toboggan Ride
The Great Toboggan Ride will be held Thursday, Jan. 31 on college land 3 km south of Vermilion. This event, one of Lakeland College's signature centennial events, is a throwback to a 1987 student event when 132 students climbed on a toboggan that was 31 metres long and slid into the record books for the most people on a toboggan. Business students connect with Chamber - Business administration students will have the opportunity to mingle with Lloydminster’s business community as they host the Chamber Connect Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 5 pm in the Lloydminster campus cafeteria. The event has become an annual occurrence and provides an excellent opportunity for networking. Students are graded on their networking skills and participation as they interact with guests. It’s a great gathering filled with food, fun, a 50/50 draw and prizes. Plan to attend!

CYC students pick up good VIBE-rations -
Second-year child and youth care students were feeling good vibes last week as they assisted with VIBE day at J.R. Robson on Wednesday, Jan. 23. Lakeland students designed and delivered a project for VIBE Day that centred on mental health. To learn more, click here.

Bull riders & bull fighters come to town for PBR
- You won’t want to miss a second as professional bull riding (PBR) takes centre stage at Lakeland College’s Indoor Riding Arena at the Vermilion campus, Friday, Feb. 15. This is the eighth PBR event that will be hosted at the college. This year and for the next five years, ATB Financial has saddled up to be the title sponsor of the event. Read more.

Enviro Club campaign urges end to idling - The simple act of turning off your ignition while running errands could earn you a Tim Horton’s gift card. Members of the Lakeland College Environmental Club are starting a campaign to thank those who don’t leave their vehicles idling when it isn’t necessary. Read more.

Substantial donation to be announced
A Canadian oil company will announce details of a substantial donation to Lakeland College’s Centennial Campaign at a media conference on Wednesday, Jan. 30, beginning at 11:30 am. It will be held at the Lakeland College’s Lloydminster campus on the second floor near the entrance to the Vic Juba Community Theatre. Plan to attend.

Are you normal?
Join agribusiness students as they host “How Dare You Be Normal,” with guest speaker Jeph Maystruck, Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 3 pm in the Alumni Hall Theatre, Vermilion campus. The presentation is a FCC GO AG event. Maystruck believes in anything but "status quo" and that the only way to find happiness is by helping other people. Maystruck teaches at SIAST and started a marketing company in Regina with two partners. He coaches volleyball and is a member of the University of Regina’s alumni board.
