Dual credit project expands & attracts more high school students to Lakeland
From 3 students to 53. That is how many high school students are now taking dual credit courses offered at Lakeland College. The course offerings are proving to be an attractive opportunity for high school students. The dual credit project which began as a partnership with East Central Alberta Catholic Schools and started with early learning and child care courses, has expanded to also include trades-related courses with its first offering of an introduction to heavy oil and gas course. The project has been an overwhelming success.
Dangers of fire smoke addressed at ETC symposium
The self-contained breathing apparatus is often the first piece of safety equipment firefighters remove when they have a fire extinguished. It should be one of the last. Lakeland College Emergency Training Centre is hosting “Know Your Smoke”, a two-day symposium for firefighters and other first responders Oct. 20 and 21 in Vermilion. The program will focus on fire smoke awareness, preventing exposure, atmospheric monitoring, and treatment if and when exposure occurs.

1st Annual Lloydminster Oil & Gas Career Discovery Day - Find out about great career opportunities in your own backyard at the 1st Annual Lloydminster Oil and Gas Career Discovery Day, Tuesday, Oct. 23 at the Lloydminster campus. Professionals will share their experiences and knowledge in brief, informative sessions. Anyone interested in learning more about the varied careers in the oil and gas sector should attend this event. This includes the general public, high school students and post-secondary students.
