For more than a dozen years animal health technology students and instructors have posed for a "hall of fame" photo. The photos are displayed in a room of the small animal clinic where students live a lot of learning. Besides students and instructors, this photo includes many student-owned dogs and cats, as well as a number of animals from the college farm. |

Picture a farm couple married for 25 years. He's lived in his father's shadow. She's thinking about retirement to town. They have two children. Their oldest son is married and farms. Their youngest child has gone to college and now wants to be part of the operation. Each of the characters in the role play--mother, father, son, daughter-in-law and youngest child has hopes, concerns and plans. This is the scenario of a conflict resolution role play in Agricultural Communications (CO138). Four students from the class took turns playing the youngest child in this farm family meeting. For the second year, college staff played the roles of the other four characters, while the rest of the class observed. For the students it's a chance to see the family dynamic in action and also use techniques to attempt to resolve the conflict. What does it look like? Watch the slides. |
