Students successfully completing the requirements listed, with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.00 will be awarded an Esthetician Certificate.

HS 160 Introduction to Esthetics 3
Overview of safe practices in the workplace regarding bacteriology and sanitation. Learn formulating the professional image, practices and skills to work with the public. Concludes with historical perspective and approaches to world of cosmetics.
HS 161 Pedicure/Manicure/Wax/Tint Lab 5
Provides practical knowledge along with theory necessary to provide services in manicures, pedicures, waxing and lash/brow/tinting. P/F.
HS 162 Colour & Makeup Lab 2
Overview of using colour to promote harmony. Includes colour psychology, skin tone and relationship with different colours.
HS 163 Skin Anatomy & Physiology 3
Overview of anatomy of skin and its function, skin types and conditions. Various skin analysis tools and how to record the findings are covered.
HS 164 Consultation & Analysis 3
Deals with client consultation, analysis, procedures, preparation and application of basic treatment. Includes basic overview of chemistry, ingredients and products an esthetician may use in treatment practices.
HS 165 Diseases & Pharmacology 3
Overview of common disorders and diseases of the skin. Although estheticians are not qualified to treat skin diseases or medical conditions, they need basic understanding of these diseases and treatment drugs. Also included is basic chemistry and cosmetic ingredient technology.
HS 166 Epidemiology & Nutrition 3
Overview of importance of skin factors and function of normal skin. Understanding the skin and taking care of it comes with knowledge of good nutrition. Essential nutrients for growth, nourishment and repair are circulated through the skin. Basic understanding of taking care of the skin and the factors and function of how health affects the skin of an individual.
HS 167 Facials Lab 3
Learn to use machines for facial treatments. Prerequisite: HS 160.
HS 168 Advanced Clinical Skin Care/Business Practices 3
Overview of advanced clinical skin care as well as body treatments. Introduction to career opportunities in medical esthetics. Students will have opportunity to learn to create their own business in the esthetics field.
HS 169 Basic Massage Techniques Lab 3
Deals with body systems, bones, muscles and nerves. Gain practical knowledge and experience with relaxation massage, hot rock massage and receive overview of reflexology. Prerequisite: HS 160.
HS 170 Holistic Practices/Aromatherapy 1
Explore holistic practices and the uses of essential oils/aromatherapy in esthetic services.
Clinical Placement
When you attain the standard knowledge and level for each procedure, you will have the opportunity to practice in a client service environment. This allows the student to complete the quotas required for each procedure and further develop the skills necessary to be a practicing esthetician.

There's a spa on campus and you can get treat yourself to services by our esthetician students. Their new spa home is in residence village --204A Lilac Landing--next door to where the massage students will be offering their services later in the school year. Spa hours are Monday & Tuesday: 4 - 8 pm and Wednesday, Thursday& Friday: 8:30 am - 12:30 pm. For all the details check out the practical learning services page.
