Massage Therapy Certification

Learn:

Work with patients and their health care providers and employers to promote relief and wellness. With a strong background and understanding in anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, you are equipped to assess and safely perform massage therapy techniques for a variety of purposes to a wide range of clients.

Ethics, business and professional communication skills and behaviours give you confidence to direct your career to work with an organization or on your own.

Live The Learning:

Learn to do:
  • acupressure chair massage
  • Swedish relaxation massage
  • pregnancy massage
  • therapeutic massage including deep tissue
  • trigger point therapy, myofascial release
  • joint mobilizations
  • proprioceptive neuromuscular techniques

Also learn to do orthopedic physical assessments, to create treatment plans based on your assessment and to develop exercise management plans for specific musculoskeletal conditions.
Your practical experience provides massage services to the public in on-site, supervised massage therapy clinics (Public Clinics 1 and 2).
You will spend your time:
  • 50% in class
  • 43% in labs
  • 7% in clinical practicum

The Lakeland Advantage:

  • Meets the full requirements for membership with the Association of Massage Therapists and Wholistic Practitioners (AMTWP)
  • Qualifies the student to apply for the entry examination with the Massage Therapist Association of Alberta (MTAA)
  • Is a recognized prerequisite for the entry examination with the Alberta Registered MassageTherapist Society (ARMTS)
  • Lakeland College is member in good standing with the Canadian Council of Massage Therapy Schools (CCMTS)
  • Earn a first aid and CPR certification as part of your course

There's a spa on campus and you can get treat yourself to services by our esthetician students. Their new spa home is in residence village --204A Lilac Landing--next door to where the massage students will be offering their services later in the school year. Spa hours are Monday & Tuesday: 4 - 8 pm and Wednesday, Thursday& Friday: 8:30 am - 12:30 pm. For all the details check out the practical learning services page.
