Child and Youth Care
Learn:
Help vulnerable children, youth and their families to make positive life changes. Your background in human development and behaviour management help you support their transitions when natural supports systems haven't met their basic needs for healthy growth and social functioning.Live The Learning:
Using your observing/reporting and assessing skills with your understanding of how to work with families, you learn to build therapeutic relationships, plan family interventions, recognize abuse symptoms, assign treatment planning and work with children with exceptionalities (special needs). You enhance your theoretical knowledge with four practicum placements during the two year program. The Lakeland Advantage:
- During each practicum placement, students work in an agency five days a week for five weeks. Students are encouraged to find agencies where they have living accommodations.
- Between 2003 – 2005 over 88% of graduates are working in their field
Human Services programs are interlinked. Some students choose to do a second diploma.
