Early Learning and Child Care Certificate
Learn:
With a class called "play" you know you're getting what you need to work with children. This basic background in play strategies is combined with human development, nutrition, and curriculum planning to make you a valuable support member of a child care facility or program.Watch a video about the program on
Live The Learning:
You learn to assist in the care of young children by designing appropriate activity and meal/snack plans for young children, and positive behaviour management strategies within child care regulations. The Lakeland Advantage:
- Two five week practicums are part of your program. One practicum will take place in a preschool setting and one in a school setting.
- Successfully completing the certificate program qualifies for Level 2 of the Day Care Staff Qualifications from Alberta or ECE II from Saskatchewan Community Resources and Employment’s Child Day Care Branch
- Early Learning and Child Care is also offered in the college region as an evening program for parents and people employed in childcare settings. A certificate can usually be completed on a part-time basis in approximately three years.
Human Services programs are interlinked. Some students choose to do a second diploma.
