Applied Research & Innovation


Lakeland College is committed to pursuing research and development activities that complement teaching and learning as well as advance innovation-based rural community economic development.

The college’s applied research priorities include: agriculture, energy, environmental sciences, emergency services, health and wellness, human services, and manufacturing and construction.

Strategic objectives

Lakeland’s strategic applied research objectives are to:
  1. Actively engage industry, community, faculty, staff and students in applied research activities to build long-term relationships within the region
  2. Provide leadership in innovative and sustainable solutions for community, economic, and environmental challenges
  3. Build on existing research strengths and expand applied research activities into other College areas, with the goal to engage all of Lakeland College in the successes and benefits of participating in applied research
  4. Enhance the profile of Lakeland College within the region
These objectives are grounded in the college’s strategic plan: ensuring sustainable growth, investing in college infrastructure, fostering a people-centred environment, engaging our community, funding our future and providing innovative programs.
