ACAC Athlete of the Week: Anika KuseAhnika Kuse was instrumental in the Lakeland Rustlers winning gold at the CCAA women’s volleyball championship, and was named one of the ACAC athletes of the week for her efforts.
Kuse was the top scorer in the aational tournament with 37 Kills, 29 Digs, 3 blocks and 3 aces. She was named 1st team tournament all-star.
The Rustlers won their opening quarterfinal match 3-2 in an absolute thriller over MSVU Mystics. Their 17-15 victory in the fifth set was as dramatic entry into the semi-finals. In the semi-finals the Rustlers played the #1 seed VIU Mariners; the visiting Rustlers took down the top seed in straight sets, winning 3-0 and advancing to the national final.
In the championship match the Rustlers would prevail 3-1 over the host Camosun Chargers to become the national champions.
This is the 1st CCAA national championship title Lakeland Rustlers have ever won, a very significant milestone for the program and Lakeland College.
This is the second time this month Kuse received athlete of the week honors. She was recognized for her play in the ACAC championships earlier in March.
