Rustlers Add to Coaching Staff
The Department of Recreation and Athletics would like to welcome / welcome back staff to the department for the 2010 – 2011 year.
Peter Sambu has just recently joined the Lakeland College family as our new Recreation Activities Supervisor on the Lloydminster Campus. Peter was also hired this spring as our new head coach of the Rustlers men’s basketball team this upcoming year. Peter will take over from Taylor Dyer who has moved over to work with the Marketing and Communications department. Peter joins our staff with a long list of involvement in recreation and athletic positions at many post secondary institutions including SAIT, King’s College and Brandon University. His passion and positive attitude he puts behind everything he does will be a great addition to our department. Drop by the Recreation Department and say hello to Peter!
Also joining our staff this spring was Kevin Wagner. Kevin hails from Saskatoon Saskatchewan and will be our new soccer coach. Kevin is working in the tri party arrangement with Saskatchewan Soccer, Meridian Youth Soccer Association and Lakeland. He brings experiences coaching at the University Saskatchewan as well as working with the provincial soccer program in Saskatchewan. Along with his incredible passion for the sport he brings a great work ethic and strong knowledge of the game.
Returning to the position of head coach the for the women’s volleyball team this year is Austin Dyer. Austin took one year off to fill for a one year sabbatical leave for the head coach of the U of S women’s volleyball program. After his one year coaching at the CIS level Austin is happy to be back at Lakeland and ready to build on the successes of the women’s volleyball team from the past two seasons.
New to our athletic programming this fall is cross country running. Mike Crowe has been working extremely hard over the last year
recruiting student athletes to the running program. The season starts up the beginning of September and will go through until the end of October. Mike’s passion for running combined with his determination to focus on the complete student athlete will definitely result in a successful program.
