Soccer Hits the Pitch for Inaugural Season

The Lakeland College Rustlers soccer teams have started some early training for their first ever season in the ACAC.  It's an exciting time for Rustler Athletics, who are very proud to be adding soccer to their programs.  Both men and women's teams will be coached by Newly aquired Kevin Wagner, who brings a wealth of coaching experience spanning 20 years.  Most recently Wagner was an assistant coach for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies Men's program.

Coach Wagner is opptomistic for their upcoming season and looks laregly to some home grown talent to help them be successful;
"We  can expect to see both squads supported by  local players who have played their past soccer in Lloydminster under Meridian Youth Soccer. While we do have some recruited athletes coming from other parts of the Country the majority of players are locally based. Ali White from BC is one of the out of province players on the Women’s Team as is Jordan Smith and Omar Amador who both come in from Winnipeg and play on the Male squad. Local players on the Men’s Team include players like Danny Schneider, Ryan Pallik and Andrew Joy. On the female side include Lindsay Pellerin, Jaceta Johnson, Teneille Sidebottom . For the first season you can expect to see two teams proud to represent Lakeland in their inaugural season and committed to being the first steps of a true soccer program."

Startign a new program is not an easy task however Wagner has a solid plan to make their first season an exciting one
"Were hoping that we can start the season off on a positive note and begin implementing  our structure as a team and play with purpose. We will be a team that plays to our strengths as we continue to work on our weakness’."

Rustlers would love to see some support this season as they enter the very tough Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference. All home games will be played at VLA park in Lloydminster.

Coach Wagner is always looking for talented players. Any one interested can contact Kevin and can still be brought into their pre season program as they continue to look for players in both programs. Pre Season will continue from Aug 29-Sept 5 with a training weekend in Saskatoon vs the Uof S Huskies on the Mens side and Eastside and Hollandia whom will be representing Saskatchewan in Club Nationals on the Womens side.
