Thunder no match for the Rustlers

The Rustlers could not wait for the regular season to begin after competing in a number of exhibition tournaments in preparation for the opening weekend.  Friday October 22 the Rustlers opened up the season with home games against the expansion Concordia Thunder. The men's team, came out firing on all cylinders and  swept the Concordia Thunder 3 sets to 0.  Scores were 25 - 20, 25 - 18 and 25 - 8.  Brett Dombrova played a solid game for the Rustlers leading the team in kills for the evening.

Going into Saturdays match the men knew they  were in for a tough battle but  they were up for the challenge.    Concordia elevated their play to a higher level but were unable to secure a win on their home court.  The Rustlers  defeated the Thunder for the second day in row by a 3 sets to 1 margin.  Scores for the match were 25 - 17, 23 - 25, 30 - 28, and 25 -16.  Brett Dombrova and Kendall Albert led the team offensively with a total of 28 kills between the two of them.  Defensively Kyle Hazelhurst and Brady Harder were credited with 13 digs each.

Next action for the volleyball teams will be this upcoming weekend October  29th and 30th when they play host to the Grande Prairie Wolves.  This will be some very exciting volleyball action as both the Rustler men's and women's teams match up well against the Wolves.  The women will kick off things at 6:00 pm on Friday night with the men to follow.  On Saturday  the women will serve the first ball at 1 pm and the men will follow around  3 pm.  For those of you who can not make it to the gym in person you can watch the games from the confines of your home by  logging  on to the webcast at   www.sportscanada.tv.  and clicking on the Lakeland College Rustlers logo.
