Basketball Team Battle MacEwan University
The Lakeland College Lady Rustlers hosted the Grant McEwan Griffins Saturday night in their only game of the weekend. This game would prove to be a high scoringBasketball Teams Battle MacEwan University affair as both teams came out on fire early. The 1st qtr saw both teams trading baskets for a majority of the frame but it was the Griffins who held a slight led of 21-16. Grant MacEwan continued their scoring spree as the scored several tough buckets inside compliment by timely 3pt shots. Heading into half the Rustlers found themselves on the wrong side of a 48-36 score. The Rustlers came out recharged in the 3rd qtr as they outscored the Griffins 22-19, making the score 67-58 for MacEwan. The Rustlers continued to play well in the fourth as they cut the lead to 5pts on multiple occasions but, the Griffins inside game proved to be too much as they slowly took control back and finished off the Rustlers 89-75. It was the first time in several games that the Rustlers had their offence back on track, Guards Tracy Holloway and Katie Hillis led the charge with 14 and 12 points respectively. Secondary scoring came from Brandi Leavitt and Mariah Van’t Hof who each chipped in with 10pts. Starting guards Hannah Crease-Mclean and Ally white added 8pts and 7 pts.
The Rustlers will now spend all week preparing their defense for the same high scoring Griffin offence. The lone game will go Friday night in Edmonton.
