Stay connected with your fellow alumni

Many alumni say their fondest memories and closest friendships were formed at Lakeland College. And, they like to reflect about the people and place that mean so much to them.

If that describes you, you might want to be a class champion.

Our new Class Champion Program is a way to support you as a class rep. You might:

  • promote class reunions or social events
  • encourage classmates to attend those events
  • reconnect with former classmates
  • plan an event

What is a class champion?
A champion isn't just a victor. It's also someone who supports a cause. You as a Lakeland class champion can support fellow alumni many ways. Here are some examples:
  • planning and promoting alumni events
  • organizing a class giving challenge
  • finding lost alumni and updating their contact information
  • notifying us of alumni who have passed away
  • providing feedback on alumni benefits, career and employment opportunities, and general engagement enrichment
What's involved?

Many hands make light work. We're in this together.

You'll be asked to do one or more of the following:

  • use a provided contact list to connect with your classmates
  • use your social media to help raise the profile of Lakeland College
  • work with the alumni office to create invitation lists
  • plan a class-specific event or fundraiser
  • act as a central contact for your classmates
  • participate in conference calls or in-person meetings with the alumni office
  • continue to provide feedback on how we can enrich alumni experience
Estimated time commitment
You are volunteering your time, so you set the schedule. Here are time commitment estimates for you:
  • contacting classmates: 2 - 16 hours
  • planning a class-specific event: 2 - 4 hours
  • participating in meetings or conference calls: 2 - 4 hours
  • providing feedback: 1 - 2 hours
  • social media: 1 - 2 hours
Tips for connecting with classmates and finding lost alumni

Personal contact with our alumni is important, but with thousands of alumni, the alumni office needs help. One way a class champion can help is by reaching out for us.

If we have a phone number, we might ask you to make some calls.

  • Review contact information with your classmate. Correct a wrong digit in an address or email. Make sure to confirm the update.
  • Ask if they are on social media and connect with them right away. Invite them to like the our alumni Facebook page. Share Lakeland's Twitter, Instagram and other accounts. Check if they have a LinkedIn profile. It's a great place to network.

Inevitably we lose contact with former students. Often it's a move without updating all their contact information.

If you like detective work, helping us find lost alumni could be for you.

Online is an obvious way to research. Search tools are a logical place to start. But there are other more targeted and specialized tools to find people.
