Student computer access

Lakeland College students have access to computers on Campus.

Computers are available in The Commons, as well as the computer labs.

By signing on to a computer, a student agrees to Lakeland's acceptable use policy.

Below are answers to some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

If you are having a particular issue, please use our IT help desk.

Where are the computer labs?

Computer Labs in Vermilion:

two computer labs in the Commons (library) - AH009A and AH009B
two computer labs in the academic link - AL112 and AL116

Note: AL112, & AL116 are open Monday to Thursday 7:30 am - 5:30 pm and Friday 7:30 am - 4:30 pm.

Computer Labs in Lloydminster:

three computer labs - BK 213, BK 215 and BK 118

There are student-use computers in the Commons on both campuses. They are available whenever the Commons is open. The Lloydminster student lounge also has computers for your use.

What are the computer lab hours?

On the Vermilion Campus from September - April the Commons computer lab hours are:

Monday - Thursday 8:15 am - 10:00 pm
Friday 8:15 am - 8 pm
Saturday & Sunday 10 am - 5 pm

From September - April the lab hours for AL112 & AL116 are:

Monday - Thursday 8 am - 5:30 pm
Friday 8 am - 4:30 pm
Saturday and Sunday closed

On the Lloydminster Campus the Commons computer access is:

Monday - Thursday 8:15 am - 10 pm
Friday 8:15 am - 8 pm
Saturday and Sunday 1 pm - 8 pm

From May – August, all computer lab hours are:

Monday – Friday 8:15 am – 4:30 pm

How do I log on to a computer?

Your Lakeland College username is

firstname.lastname@edu.lakelandcollege.ca.

Example: John F Smith's email address would be john.smith@edu.lakelandcollege.ca.

What is my initial password?

Your initial password is

LLC!#### and the 4# are the last 4 digits of your student ID#.

Example LLC!1234.

Notes:

You will reset your password after your first login.
Your password expires after 1 year.
New passwords must contain at least 8 characters and have at least 3 of the following:

uppercase
lowercase
numbers
special characters

Example password: Work100% - includes 4 of the requirements.
Your password can not contain any part of your user name.

I've forgotten my password or I'm locked out of my account, what do I do?

If you've forgotten your password, or are locked out of your account please call IT at 780 853 8599.

Assistance is available Monday - Friday between 8:15 am and 4:30 pm.

What is the cost of printing?

10¢ a sheet for letter sized black and white copies
40¢ a sheet for letter sized colour copies

Print credit cards may be purchased at the campus bookstore for $10.00.

What if I have a problem with a printer?

Report printer problems to Information Technology (IT) at 780 853 8599.

Assistance is available Monday - Friday between 8:15 am - 4:30 pm.

I'm having a problem with My Lakeland. I'm having a problem with D2L.

For My Lakeland, if you are at your own computer, please click on this address myLChelp@lakelandcollege.ca to send your email. If you're on a Lakeland computer, you'll need to use the form on My Lakeland. You may also stop by student services on your campus. Please have your student ID with you.
For D2L, use the online support desk. Go to the technical support page https://community.brightspace.com/lakelandcollege/s/), look for the Chat with an Expert window (bottom right orange box). Or, call toll-free 1 877 325 7778. Support is available 24/7 for both password help and D2L technical issues.

How do I connect to Wi-Fi?

Check connecting details for your operating system or device on wireless access page for access to Wi-Fi on campus.

If you live in residence, you may also wish to purchase internet through Telus or Shaw. We recommend you get a separate account if you are an avid gamer or download a lot.

I forgot to logoff my account... is that bad?

You should always sign out.
Log off your account as soon as you are finished using any network computer.
If you don't, then you become responsible for any activities another person may perform using your account.

I saved something on a lab computer's C drive and now I can't find it?

Sorry, you won't be able to. Work saved to the computer is deleted when you log off. So, don't save to the C drive.

Best practices:

Use a memory stick.
Save to OneDrive - you'll have access through your Lakeland college email address.

Where is the lost and found?

Items left in a computer lab are taken to the lost and found located in the SA offices or Student Services.

What if I find something that is broken?

Report broken equipment to Information Technology (IT) at 780 853 8599
