Convocation and Recognition Ceremony Archives
Convocation is one of the highlights of every year at Lakeland College.
Students, their family and friends plus Lakeland administration, faculty and staff all celebrate the accomplishments of the class.
We have several traditions at our convocation ceremonies:
- All the faculty are on the stage to congratulate each graduate as they receive their credential.
- In the 1980s, the President's Medal was added to convocation. The medal honours outstanding graduates for their academic excellence and campus leadership
- We recognize generation alumni. New graduates whose parents, grandparents and or great-grandparents are alumni are introduced.
- The academic recessional concludes with faculty, board members and senior staff lining the hallway and clapping for the graduates as they exit.
- We recognize a distinguished citizen on each campus during our ceremonies. Distinguished alumnus recognition has moved to the annual donor and awards celebration evening.
- Our newest tradition is a ceremonial prayer from an elder and honour song at the beginning of each convocation.
We also celebrate other graduations and recognition ceremonies:
- breakfasts for apprentice students who complete their training
- firefighter platoon graduations
- completion ceremony for our EST students
