Get Involved

As a student, you are automatically a member of the students’ association on your campus.

Your representations, mostly elected, are the councils on each campus. Together they form a student executive council that works for all Lakeland students.

What the SA does:

• represent you on college committees
• organize and maintain the class rep committee
• advocate for you on the college, municipal, provincial and federal levels
• provide services such as our annual day planner
• organize activities, events and awareness program ranging from stress busters to a winter gala
• manage the student pubs on each campus
• assist sanctioned clubs

Check out our campus recreation facilities. Your student ID is an entrance to a variety of activities and facilities including the Lloydminster weight room and the Vermilion pool.

There are also options off campus.

Clubs provide a great way to connect with old friends and make new ones, pursue your interests and expand your horizons.

You'll probably want to start with the international students' club.

Lakeland has several clubs that students from both campuses can join. See a list of current clubs.

If you're interested in starting your own club, contact your campus Student's Association.

Clubs and student-led initiatives offer a lot of different events. These range through:

• bake sales
• movie nights
• puppy de-stress rooms during exams
• Lakeland's Little Royal
• Indigenous events
• social awareness displays 

Lakeland Rustlers

Our Rustler teams include:

• basketball
• curling
• futsal
• rodeo
• rowing
• soccer
• volleyball
• women’s hockey

Basketball, futsal, soccer and volleyball are in Lloydminster. Lakeland has hosted provincial competitions as well as a national women's volleyball championship. 

The rowing team practices in Vermilion and every third year hosts a regatta. 

The rodeo team is also based in Vermilion and hosts 2 rodeos a year. The rodeo club also hosts roughstock rodeo, roping and barrel racing competitions throughout the year. 

Curling is based in Vermilion and teams compete in local leagues. Most of their competitions are in different parts of Alberta. Teams have hosted both regional and provincial competitions.

Both Vermilion and Lloydminster have a number of organizations who run events throughout the year. 

Vermilion Allied Arts Council & Vic Juba Theatre 

Both organizations offer student rates for some performances.

Parades

• night light parades during the Christmas season
• fair parades in the summer

Cultural Activities

• multicultural and Canada Day activities in late June and July 1
• Cultural days in September
• Ukrainian Christmas and New Year
• Robbie Burns Day January 25 
• Community Christmas Dinner - Vermilion

Sports

• most minor hockey games are free to attend - just get to an arena
• elite and junior hockey may have a ticket price - this includes U21 in Vermilion, major U18 and the AJHL in Lloydminster. Major U18 and U16 girls is free admission.
• watch curling with someone who knows the sport - also free to watch during regular league play
• try cross country skiing with the Vermilion Cross Country club (rentals available)
• try ice skating - public skating. Skate rentals at Lloydminster's Servus Centre.
• watch figure skating - each community has a figure skating club that does performances. Small admission charge.
