Graduation Awards
Convocation's central theme is the celebration of each graduate who receives their credential. At Lakeland we also do more.
Since 1981, our president has presented a medal to an outstanding graduate or graduates. We now recognize an outstanding graduate on each campus with a president's medal.
The Governor General's Academic Medal is presented to the graduating student with the highest academic average. The collegiate bronze medal is given out at participating schools for achievement in a diploma program.
Lakeland has a unique tradition of recognizing generation alumni. New graduates receive a pin marking them as a generation alumni as they had at least one parent, grandparent or great-grandparent who was a Lakeland alumnus. This includes graduates from the original Vermilion School of Agriculture through the other name changes to Lakeland College today.
More recently, we've added the distinguished citizen presentation to our convocation ceremonies.
