Indigenous Academic Supports
Academic supports come in 2 different forms: on campus services for students and working with Indigenous groups to broaden educational opportunities.
On campus services
Lakeland's Learning Commons offers a number of free services to all students.
This includes:
- Peer tutors - You are eligible for 16 hours of free peer tutoring each semester, 8 hours for each of 2 courses.
- Learner success services - include a strategist as well as learning and study resources in number of topics including exam anxiety.
- Libraries - each campus has a library with library staff to assist you with research. You have access to an entire network of resources as well as interlibrary loans.
- Grammarly - also free using your edu email address. A well to check spelling, grammar and other parts of essays and papers.
Connecting with Indigenous groups and organizations
Lakeland has built relationships with a number of Indigenous organizations. This includes activities such as bringing people to campus to exposure them to our programs and services
For example, we've hosted a number of exposure events for local First Nations' communities bringing potential students to our facilities.
We've also worked with a variety of bands and organizations to bring courses and programs to their communities. Examples include digital literacy, administrative support and even early learning education.
