Open yourself to the opportunity of learning in another country.

At Lakeland College, we welcome students from all over the globe. In the past few years we've had students from more than 20 countries.

We also help current students find study abroad opportunities and internships. As part of our mandate, Lakeland is also involved in projects and partnerships with other post-secondaries in Canada and around the globe.

Club trips and program practicums beyond Canada are annual, they aren't a part of our official role.

Why choose Lakeland?

We asked our international students why they chose Lakeland College. Their top 3 reasons:

  • for high quality education
  • for immigration opportunities
  • because its affordable

That's exactly why we think Lakeland College is a good choice for you.

We built our reputation on a proven ability to offer crucial skills and knowledge. In other words, what you need to succeed in your chosen career.

Our top quality education is affordable. Plus its full of hands-on, work-integrated and student-led experiences.

Our reputation is strengthened by satisfied students who recommend us to their family and friends. That's true of both international and domestic students.

So, read and learn more about the advantages Lakeland College offers you.

Who is an international student?

If you don't have a Canadian passport or a residency card, then you are an international student.

How we help

Our international team will help you from an initial question about coming to Lakeland through to your time as a student.

We can advise you about programs, help arrange transportation to the college and answer questions about campus WiFi.

You can always contact us via international@lakelandcollege.ca.

Plan ahead

Congratulations, you've decided you want to come to Lakeland College.

Becoming an international student takes time. We advise you start the process at least 1 year before you plan to start at Lakeland College.

Here are some of the reasons why:

  • Saving money to travel and pay your tuition. Immigration Canada will also require proof you have enough money for your study and living expenses.
  • Assessing your academic qualifications may require referral to an agency. Current processing time by International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) is 4 months.
  • Your study permit/student visa may take several weeks to be processed. Check the study permit application processing time for your country. For example, times have varied from 2 to 31 weeks.
Other considerations before applying

Before you apply

  • Understand where we are located in Canada. Lloydminster is over 3,200 km from Toronto and about 1,500 km from Vancouver.
  • Take a look at the costs: travel, tuition, and living costs. Can you afford to study abroad? Make a budget and check the value of Canadian currency against your own.
  • Choose a program. Check out all the programs open to international students.
  • Check the academic requirements of your program.
  • Do you speak, write and read English well enough to be a student in Canada? Check English language requirements.
  • Do you have a credit card so you can pay the application fee when you apply online?
Ready to apply?
Congratulations - you have decided to apply to Lakeland College. The process is simple, but does require some effort.
Choose a program

You need to choose a program that fits your goals. Not every program is available to international students. Some programs fill up quickly and won't have a space.

Do the research about your program options.

Check out the costs
Once you've decided on a program, check out the cost to come to Canada and go to school.

Check out our fee calculator and living costs page.

Apply online
You apply through our province's post-secondary application system. It's called Apply Alberta.

You'll need a credit card to pay the $90 application fee.

If you want to learn more about how ApplyAlberta works, check out our how to apply page.

We recommend you apply before July 1 to start in September.

Please note: applications are only valid for the term you apply to. If you would like to attend in the future, you must reapply.

Email transcripts and other documents
Our admissions team needs to see your transcript. It's part of evaluating whether you have the right academic qualifications for the program.

As soon as possible after you apply, please email the following documents to international@lakelandcollege.ca:

  • a copy of your transcripts
  • your English proficiency test results. If you aren't sure exactly what these are, please see our English language requirements page.
  • the biographical (name, age, birth date) page of your passport
Wait

Once our admissions department has all of your documents, they can assess your previous education and English language skills.

If they have questions or need other documents, they will contact you.

If all of your information is complete, you'll be sent an acceptance letter offering you admission to Lakeland College.

You need this letter for the next step: getting a student visa.
