Lakeland’s School of Business grows with marketing major
An exciting, in-demand career awaits those who enrol in Lakeland College’s marketing program this fall.
Students in Lakeland’s business administration diploma program can specialize in one of the most diverse business fields with a major in marketing. Available at the Lloydminster campus, students will build a solid foundation of business skills before delving into essential marketing courses, including e-commerce, consumer behaviour, marketing research, public relations, advertising and promotions, and more. The first year of the program can also be completed fully online.
"We’re very pleased to enhance our diploma program with the marketing major. It gives our students an opportunity to specialize in this dynamic field with the flexibility to choose courses that interest them for the career they want to pursue,” says Angela Minish, instructor and chair of Lakeland’s School of Business.
“We’re offering a range of courses that reflect the opportunities available in the marketing field, and we’re pairing that with experiential-based learning that will see our students work with our local business community. We know there is a demand for marketing jobs across all industries and our program will help meet that need.”
Collaborative, hands-on marketing work may include projects for the local chamber of commerce, focus groups for local businesses and more. Each project will help students build their resumé with real-world experiences before they graduate.
Students can also participate in an optional 16-week paid co-op placement between their first and second year. The co-op opportunity is another way to put theory into action while building networks and business experience.
The marketing major will prepare graduates to succeed in a variety of career paths in marketing, sales, corporate communications, media relations and more with:
- financial institutions and credit unions
- small and big businesses
- government departments
- health services
- sports teams and organizations
- advertising agencies
- media companies and outlets
- advocacy groups and associations
They will also have the opportunity to continue their education at Lakeland by completing another business administration diploma major. Thanks to Lakeland’s on-campus degree options with Athabasca University, graduates can also pursue a degree.
