From the President's Desk: February 18, 2025

Hello everyone,
Hopefully spring is just around the corner and we can enjoy warmer weather soon.
There’s plenty of athletic excitement ahead to keep us warm! Join us in cheering on our Lakeland College Rustlers as they compete. The Lloydminster campus will host the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Men’s Volleyball Championships on Feb. 20–22. The Women’s Hockey Playoffs will be held at the Russ Robertson Arena from Feb. 28–March 16. The Women’s and Men’s Futsal Championship will be held March 7–9 in the Lloydminster campus gym. I would also like to acknowledge the accomplishments of curlers Bodie Duke and Annaka Miettinen. They earned male and female Rookie of the Year honours in their first ACAC Curling Championship. Congratulations Bodie and Annaka.
On Feb. 11, Lakeland College celebrated Canada’s Agriculture Day, recognizing the dedication and innovation that drive this essential industry. At Lakeland, we take pride in supporting agriculture and the hardworking farmers, producers and agri-scientists who sustain it. For over a century, we’ve been educating future leaders, preparing them to shape the industry with knowledge and innovation. Today, we honour their resilience and commitment as we continue to foster the next generation of agricultural professionals.
Lakeland College is proud to support Truth and Reconciliation, as well as Indigenous wellness. On Feb. 12, we hosted a Day of Indigenous Storytelling – an incredible opportunity to share Indigenous history and learn from meaningful cultural experiences through the art of storytelling. Thank you to everyone who attended and shared their knowledge with us.
I’d like to take a moment to recognize Black History Month. This month is an opportunity to celebrate the rich history and culture of Black communities in Canada while acknowledging their invaluable contributions to society.
Lakeland’s programs and activities are designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge they need for success while fostering lifelong learning through hands-on education. It’s clear that Lakeland is not only a fantastic place to study but it is also a rewarding place to work.
Until next time,
Alice
