Lakeland celebrates six years as Top Employer
For the sixth consecutive year, Lakeland College staff and faculty have cause to celebrate – being named one of Alberta’s Top 75 Employers for 2022.
“Being named one of Alberta’s top 75 employers is such an honour for us,” says Dr. Alice Wainwright-Stewart, president and CEO of Lakeland College. “At Lakeland, we know our strength is our people – the faculty and staff who dedicate their time to providing students with a hands-on, real-world education. It has always been important to us to ensure we provide a supportive, positive work environment, one which prioritizes our employees’ physical and mental health, as well as work-life balance.”
When designating Lakeland as one of Alberta’s top employers, the selection committee considered the college’s health benefits plan, including a health and/or wellness spending account and allocated sick days. Lakeland’s family-friendly culture, with maternity leave top-ups and paid personal days off was also considered, as was the college’s pension plan and retirement assistance planning.
“During the last year, it has been more important than ever for us to ensure we have as many supports as possible in place to help our staff thrive as we deal with the constantly changing context in which we work,” says Dr. Wainwright-Stewart. “Facilitating working from home where possible, offering compressed or flexible working hours, and increasing our mental and physical health supports have all been important. I am so proud of our team at Lakeland as we have continued to foster a connected, collaborative environment for our team. This designation recognizes our efforts.”
Lakeland has 298 employees in Canada. The longest serving employee has been with the college for 42 years.
The Alberta’s Top Employers list was released on Jan. 25 by Mediacorp Canada Inc., the company that manages Canada’s Top 100 Employers project and competitions such as Alberta’s Top Employers. The annual competition is open to any employer with its head office in Alberta.
