Lakeland College will celebrate graduates at the Lloydminster campus convocation ceremony on May 27.

Where: Lakeland College gymnasium, 2602-59 Ave. Lloydminster, Alta.
Why: Approximately 206 candidates for graduation from degree, diploma and certificate programs at the Lloydminster campus will be recognized during the celebration.
Highlights:

The ceremony will include graduates from Business, Energy & Petroleum Technology, Health & Wellness and University Transfer programs. More than 160 of the 206 candidates for graduation are expected to attend. About 497 candidates for graduation at the Vermilion campus will be recognized on June 3. Fire and Emergency Services and Trades and Technology ceremonies are held at other times during the academic year.

President’s Medal (Lloydminster campus) – Presented to a graduating student at each campus who has demonstrated excellence in academics and leadership in student activities. This year’s Lloydminster campus recipient is Don Shaw of Elk Point, Alta., a graduate of the Business Administration program.

Distinguished Alumni Award (Lloydminster campus) – Laryssa Whittaker, Class of 1991. She was a student in the college’s University Transfer program. She then completed a bachelor’s degree in church music at the Canadian Bible College before she obtained a bachelor of arts and a master’s degree in ethnomusicology at the University of Alberta. In 2015 Whittaker was awarded a PhD from Royal Holloway, University of London, where she now shares her expertise as a teaching fellow and visiting lecturer.

Honorary Credential – An Honorary Bachelor of Applied Business Degree will be presented to Ross Ulmer. For nearly four decades, Ulmer has excelled in the business community – a feat he attributes to his family’s philosophy of giving back. The Ulmer Auto Group currently numbers 12 automotive dealerships and one RV business. Known for his community involvement, Ulmer has been an instrumental supporter of numerous organizations in the community.

Two generation-graduates will be recognized in Lloydminster. Alumni generation pins are presented to students who apply for this recognition.

The ceremonies will be broadcast online as a webcast at lakelandcollege.ca/grad.
