Viterra Scholarship for Excellence
Lakeland College is thrilled to announce that students will soon benefit from the generosity and support of Viterra.
The grain industry leader has made a significant investment – $75,000 – in Lakeland students by creating the Viterra Scholarship for Excellence.
“Viterra’s student-focused investment will play an instrumental role in the lives of many of our students and future community leaders. Recipients of the Viterra Scholarship for Excellence will be able to continue to excel in their studies and achieve their goals thanks to Viterra’s commitment to post-secondary education,” says Debbie Neigum, senior development officer with Lakeland College. “With gratitude, we thank Viterra for making education more accessible to our students.”
The scholarship will be available over a 10-year term to students enrolled full-time in second-year agricultural sciences and business administration diploma programs, the general agriculture certificate program, and the pre-employment electrical certificate program. The Viterra Scholarship for Excellence will be awarded based on academic achievement and special consideration will be given to students of Indigenous ancestry.
“It’s an exciting time to be in the business of agriculture, and our company is constantly looking for the best people to help us connect our farm customers to marketing opportunities around the world,” said Kyle Jeworski, Viterra’s President and CEO for North America. “The business and ag programs at Lakeland College are focused on the needs of our industry, and are instrumental in giving students the knowledge and experience to pursue rewarding careers with an industry leader such as Viterra.”
The first Viterra Scholarship for Excellence is valued at up to $2,000 and will be awarded in March 2016 at Lakeland’s annual awards celebration.
Last year, Viterra announced its commitment to education through significant scholarship funding across five provinces. Students attending the selected schools, including Lakeland College, will be eligible to access funding from an overall pool of $900,000.
