Women’s conference brings inspiration and opportunity

From health advice to financial advice and everything in between, the 14th annual Lloydminster Inspiring Women Conference on Feb. 4 had something for every woman in attendance – and for the administrative professional students who helped organize the event, it had a little something extra. Hands-on, real-world experiences that will enhance their resumes after graduation.
“I’ve never done anything like this before,” says student Leanne Gossner, who was one of the students who helped organize the conference. “It’s great to work a conference like this. You get to see all the little details and everything that goes into it. It’s a good learning experience.”
Gossner enrolled in the administrative professional program after spending over 10 years working in childcare. She chose that particular program because she felt it would be a good place for her people skills and she definitely put them into practice at the conference.
“Each year, KT and Company put on the conference and the administrative professional students are on the committee,” Gossner explains. “Each student has a different role. I was in charge of the registration list and registration, as well as running their LinkedIn account for a few months to help promote the conference.”
Over 400 women attended the conference this year. Topics included women’s health, financial literacy, work-life balance and overcoming personal challenges.
Gossner also had the opportunity to take in a few sessions and left so inspired, she wanted more.
“Conferences like this help women,” she says. “Not only will my experiences look good on my resume, all the stories the presenters told were so inspiring. I’m glad I got to be part of it.”
