Driver Training Continuing Education

Air Brake Endorsement (Q) is a mandatory part of getting Alberta Class 1, Class 3 or any air equipped motor vehicle (motorhome) license.

Alberta also requires:

• commercial medical exam (fee may apply)
• learner's permit (purchased at Alberta registries office)
• cost for Alberta road test

When you successfully complete the practical, you will receive a completion form for Alberta registries, allowing you to take the written (computer version) test.

Saskatchewan also requires an air brake endorsement. There is also a written and practical test. Both are done through your local licensing office.

Saskatchewan also requires:

• cost for Saskatchewan road test

While Saskatchewan students are welcome to attend, the practicum testing is not applicable. However, our course gives you an opportunity to learn from an instructor and practice.

Both can be done through your local SGI office.

Drivers seeking a Class 1 (tractor trailer) or Class 2 (bus) licence are required to complete Mandatory Entry-Level Training (MELT) to apply for their commercial driver’s licence. If you earned your Class 1 licence before Oct 11, 2018, you aren't required to do any upgrading. If you are a new driver, MELT includes 113 hours of instruction.

Drivers seeking a Class 1 commercial license must first complete Saskatchewan’s mandatory entry-level training (MELT). MELT consists of 121.5 hours training.
