Admission requirements
You must be 18 years old to do your practicum.
For the best chance of success, you should have a strong understanding of math and physics. If you need a refresher, Lakeland offers pre-engineering mathematics and applied mechanics.
If you plan to go on to higher classifications, for example 2nd year of the heavy oil power engineering (HOPE) program, you must have Physics 20. Physics 30 is strongly recommended, but isn't a requirement.
Graduation requirements
When you complete the course requirements with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.30 and have attended at least 80% of your classes, you will be awarded a Fourth Class Power Engineering certificate.
Note: 65% is the passing mark for each course. This is also the Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA) passing grade.
