Power Engineering Technician Requirements
Admission requirements
1. High school diploma with a minimum of:
- 50% in English 30-1 or 30-2
- 50% in Math 30-1 or 65% in Math 30-2
- 50% in one of Physics 20, Chemistry 20 or 65% in Science 20 (Physics 20 is recommended)
2. Proof of English language proficiency
Notes:
- If plan to go on to higher classifications, you will need to apply to the 2nd year of the Process and Power Engineering diploma. Admission is subject to program availability. Preference to 2nd year will be given to 1st year Process and Power Engineering students. Physics 20 will be required (Physics 30 is strongly recommended)
- If you completed high school outside of Alberta, check provincial subject equivalents.
- If you don’t have the academic requirements, you may qualify through special admissions.
- If you are an International student, check eligible programs.

Safety tickets are a requirement so you may enter our labs and attend your practicums. All tickets should have an expiry date that is later than your program's end date. If your ticket expires before you complete the program, you'll have to retake the training. 1. H2S Alive

Math assessment |
If you are a 1st year student, you must complete a preliminary math assessment. These assessments are part of the program Registration Day. Registration Day is mandatory. |

Enrolment is the final step after you've been accepted, paid your tuition deposit, and the timetable has been set.

Recognition of prior learning |
If you completed relevant courses at another post-secondary institution, you may be eligible for transfer credit. Apply for transfer credit at least 2 months before classes start by completing the transfer credit form. Review all of the other ways Lakeland does prior learning assessments. |

Graduation requirements
When you complete the program requirements with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.30 and have attended at least 80% of your classes, you will be awarded a Power Engineering Technician certificate.
Note: The passing grade for each course is 65%. This is also the Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA) passing grade.
