Admission requirements
1. Minimum age 18 by program start date
2. High school diploma with a minimum of:
- 50% in English 30-1 or English 30-2
- 50% in Math 20-3
- 50% in one of any grade 11 science
3. Proof of English language proficiency.
4. Proof of valid unrestricted Alberta Class 5 or equivalent driver's licence.
5. Proof of air brake endorsement. Must be reflected on your driver's licence. A temporary or interim licence is acceptable.
6. Proof of medical clearance. The medical release form (PDF) must be completed within 1 year of the program start date.
Notes:
- Admission is determined on a first-qualified (all requirements completed) basis.
- If you have a graduated driver's licence (GDL), the restriction must be removed off your licence.
- If you completed high school outside of Alberta, check provincial subject equivalents.
- If you don’t have the academic requirements, you may qualify through special admissions.
- If you are an International student, check eligible programs.

Uniform requirement |
You are required to be in uniform on registration day. Review the uniform information sheet and complete the uniform order form. The form expires on October 31 each year. An updated form will be posted here as soon as it is available. See additional information under program details. |

Course enrolment |
Enrolment is the final step after you've been accepted, paid your tuition deposit, and the timetable has been set.

Recognition of prior learning |
If you completed relevant courses at another post-secondary institution, you may be eligible for transfer credit. Apply for transfer credit at least 2 months before classes start by completing the transfer credit form. Review all of the other ways Lakeland does prior learning assessments. |
Graduation requirements
When you complete the requirements, you will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement - Fire Fighter.
You are also eligible for these professional certifications:
- NFPA 472 - Dangerous Goods Operations Level
- NFPA 1001 - Fire Fighter Level II
- NFPA 1002 - Fire Apparatus - Pumping Operations
