HS 160 Introduction to Esthetics - 2 credits |
Introduction to Esthetics provides the students an overview of safe practices in the work place regarding bacteriology and sanitation. Course content includes formulating the professional image, practices and skills to work with the public. The course concludes with the historical perspective and approaches to the world of cosmetics. Pre/co-requisites: None |
HS 161 Pedicure, Manicure, Wax & Tint Lab - 6 credits |
This course provides students with practical knowledge along with theory necessary to provide the services in manicures, pedicures, waxing and lash/brow/tinting. Pre/co-requisites: None |
HS 162 Colour & Makeup Lab - 2 credits |
This course is an overview of using color to promote harmony. Course content includes color psychology, skin tone and their relationship with different colors. Pre/co-requisites: None |
HS 163 Skin Anatomy & Physiology - 3 credits |
This course provides an overview of the anatomy of the skin and its function and of skin types and conditions. Various skin analysis tools and the recording of the findings are covered. Pre/co-requisites: None |
HS 164 Consultation & Analysis - 3 credits |
This course deals with client consultation, skin analysis, and the anatomy of a facial for both women and men. Pre/co-requisites: None |
HS 165 Diseases & Pharmacology - 3 credits |
This course is an overview of common disorders and diseases of the skin. Although estheticians are not qualified to treat skin diseases or medical conditions, they need a basic understanding of these diseases and the treatment drugs. Also included is basic chemistry and cosmetic ingredient technology. Pre/co-requisites: None |
HS 166 Skin Care Lab - 3 credits |
This is course is an overview of the importance of skin factors and function of normal skin. Understanding the skin and taking care of it comes with knowledge of good nutrition. Essential nutrients for growth, nourishment and repair are circulated through the skin. This course provides the student with the basic understanding of taking care of the skin and the factors and function of how health affects the skin of an individual. Pre/co-requisites: None |
HS 167 Facials Lab - 2 credits |
This course provides esthetician students with practical application using machines for facial treatments. Prerequisite: HS 160. Co-requisites: None |
HS 168 Advanced Clinical Skin Care & Business Practices - 3 credits |
This course gives an overview of advanced clinical skin care as well as body treatments. It also introduces students to career opportunities in medical esthetics. Students will have the opportunity learn how to create their own business in the esthetics field. Pre/co-requisites: None |
HS 169 Basic Massage Techniques Lab - 3 credits |
This course deals with body systems, bones, muscles and nerves. Students gain practical knowledge and experience with relaxation massage, hot rock massage and receive an overview of reflexology. Pre/co-requisites: None |

HS 185 Derma Needling - 1 credit |
Students are trained in collagen induction therapy as a way to stimulate the body’s natural wound healing process to treat acne scarring, pigmentation spots, neck wrinkles, smile and frown lines, and crow’s feet. Prerequisites: Certified Esthetician, LPN or RN. Co-requisites: None |
HS 186 Dermaplaning - 1 credit |
Students concentrate on the latest trend in skincare exfoliation and hair removal with our comprehensive dermaplaning course. Prerequisites: Certified Esthetician, LPN or RN. Co-requisites: None |
HS 187 Microdermabrasion - 2 credits |
Students are trained in skin rejuvenation treatment for exfoliation and stimulating cell turnover. Prerequisites: Certified Esthetician, LPN or RN. Co-requisites: None |
HS 188 Chemical Peels - 2 credits |
Students study the process used to enhance the production of natural collagen resulting in smooth, radiant skin reducing fine lines and scarring. Chemical peels are used for spot treatments, stretch marks, facial rejuvenation and the improvement of skin tone, texture and color. Prerequisites: Certified Esthetician, LPN or RN. HS 189 Clinical Laser Technician - 4 credits |
Students use IPL laser system for a variety of laser services including hair removal, tattoo removal, skin rejuvenation, laser facials, as well as the treatment of spider veins and pigmented spots. Prerequisites: Certified Esthetician, LPN or RN. Co-requisites: None |
