An interior designer needs many practical applied skills to be successful.
At Lakeland, you'll both learn and practice:
- hand sketching and rendering to graphically represent ideas and designs
- drafting construction documents at your dedicated work station
- selecting and specifying finishes, furniture and materials
- developing detailed plans, elevations and sections
- presenting ideas and solutions
- using software such as AutoCAD, Photoshop, Revit and Sketchup. All these programs are installed in the interior design computer lab.
- spatial planning for residential, retail and hospitality

3D modeling |
Using software, you'll develop 3D models of your designs. |
Computer software skills |
Your profession uses some specific software including AutoCAD, Revit and Sketchup. Those programs are all available in the dedicated interior design technology computer lab. |
Selecting finishes |
You'll get inspiration from and use our sample room to pick everything from light fixtures to floor coverings. Above are carpet samples |
Measuring for projects |
While visiting project sites helps your understanding of construction, you may also visit a site to understand a project. Above students journeyed below Lloydminster's Vic Juba Theatre to see its infrastructure and to take measurements. Students had been invited to prepare proposals to redesign the theatre's Green Room. |
