MA 116 Trades Math - 1 credit |
This course follows the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Welder Curriculum. The student learns math concepts that pertain directly to the welding trade in both metric and imperial systems including conversion from one form of measurement to the other. Topics covered include fractions, decimals, ratios, perimeter, area, and volume. Prerequisites: None. Co-requisites: SA 120, WE 115, WE 117, WE 118, WE 119, & WE 135 |
SA 120 Safety Training - 0 credits |
This course prepares workers to recognize safety hazards, to avoid dangerous actions and to perform basic rescue when needed. The course includes a variety of safety modules but not limited to: WHMIS, H2S Alive, CPR and First Aide, Confined Space Entry, Defensive Driving, Transport of Dangerous Goods, Construction Safety Training System. Modules are chosen based upon the needs of the individual class. Each module includes a combination of both theory and practice. Upon successful completion of written and practical examinations, the candidate is issued a certificate. All modules are delivered by accredited in-house staff or by contracted outside agencies. P/F. WE 115 Workplace Safety & Tools - 2 credits |
This course follows the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Welder Curriculum. This course is designed to introduce students to the welding theory of Industry Safety and Tools. The many hazards associated with welding make it essential for students to be knowledgeable about safe welding procedures and practices. Prerequisites: None. WE 117 Welding Technology - 2 credits |
This course follows the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Welder Curriculum. Welding technology requires a broad skill set, and knowledge of techniques and procedures necessary to accomplish a successful weld. Students gain these skills through theory and lab practical procedures. Prerequisites: None. Co-requisites: MA 116, SA 120, WE 115, WE 118, WE 119 & WE 135 |
WE 118 Wire Process Theory - 3 credits |
This course follows the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Welder Curriculum. Students are introduced to the principles and practices of Gas Metal Arc Welding, Flux Core Arc Welding, Metal Core Arc Welding and Submerged Arc Welding; proper equipment set-up, and safety of each process are taught. Students will also learn about the uses of various filler metals and shielding gasses. Prerequisites: None. Co-requisites: MA 116, SA 120, WE 115, WE 117, WE 119 & WE 135 |
WE 119 Wire Process Lab - 4 credits |
This course follows the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Welder Curriculum. This introductory lab based course allows students to develop hand skills in Gas Metal Arc Welding, Flux Core Arc Welding and Metal Core Arc Welding. Students are expected to adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations while in the lab facility. Prerequisites: None. WE 135 Pre-Employment Welder Practicum - 3 credits |
This course is a 4 week block of work experience upon the completion of initial classroom studies. The student is assigned to a training position within the welding industry. This practicum provides the student an opportunity to observe and contribute to the day-to-day operations of a welder under normal operating conditions. The primary objective is to obtain the basic skills necessary to function safely in the workplace and complete assigned tasks. Prerequisites: at least 65% combined average in MA 116, SA 120, WE 115, WE 117, WE 118 & WE 119. Co-requisites: none. |
