Lakeland College sent two apprentices to compete for Team Alberta at Skills Canada and both of them came home with more hardware.

Logan Peters, carpenter, competes at the 2025 Skills Canada National Competition.Logan Peters, carpenter and Braden Kereliuk, steamfitter-pipefitter, both qualified to compete at Skills Canada after coming in first in their divisions in Skills Canada Alberta Provincial Competition on May 7 and 8. They travelled to nationals in Regina on May 29 and 30. Peters claimed silver and Kereliuk took bronze.

“I am incredibly proud of our apprentices, Logan and Braden, for their outstanding achievements at Skills Canada,” says Dr. Alice Wainwright-Stewart, president and CEO of Lakeland College. “Winning bronze and silver medals is a testament to their hard work, dedication and the exceptional training they have received. Their success not only highlights their individual talents but also underscores the quality of our apprenticeship programs. Congratulations to both of them for representing our college with such distinction."

In 2024, Lakeland heavy equipment technology apprentice James Wilson won gold at Skills Canada, and in 2023, carpenter apprentice Tyler Bendfeld did as well.

Braden Kereliuk, steamfitter-pipefitter, competes at the 2025 Skills Canada National Competition.Participation in Skills Canada events align closely with Lakeland’s strategic goals, including enhancing student learning through applied, hands-on opportunities that mirror industry standards and expectations. Lakeland's apprenticeship programs include carpenter, automotive service technician, electrician, heavy equipment technician, parts technician, steamfitter-pipefitter and welder.
