Students in Lakeland College’s animal science technology program are gearing up to put their learning into action at the 5th annual RoundUp Livestock Auction on March 22.
The student-led event is a key piece of the college’s Student-Managed Farm – Powered by New Holland (SMF) experience. It brings together students from the purebred beef, commercial beef and equine SMF units to show off the results of a hard year’s worth of work as they auction off
prized livestock to the highest bidder.
“We can’t wait for the sale,” says Samantha Bracken, student in the animal science technology equine major and RoundUp committee member. “It is such an awesome opportunity to showcase the animals we work so hard to raise and train throughout the year, as well as make industry connections and learn how to put on a good sale.”
This year, the SMF units are offering:
- 16 Black Angus yearling bulls
- 1 Red Angus yearling bull
- 5 purebred replacement heifers
- 4 pens of commercial open replacement heifers (one pen of four and three pens of three)
- 1 pen of commercial-bred heifers
- 2 AQHA geldings
- 2 AQHA mares
- 1 AQHA broodmare confirmed in foal.
Previews start at 1 p.m. with the live auction kicking off at 3 p.m. Potential buyers are invited to attend the auction in person at Lakeland’s Equine Centre on Vermilion campus, or virtually through DLMS.
